Work With Us

Meraki (n.): to do something with soul, creativity, and love.

It's in our name. We're a small team by design, and we keep a group of remarkable independent professionals around us: the Merakois. There's room for a few more.

The honest part

We don't have open fixed positions right now. No listings, and no "we'll keep your CV on file." When that changes, this page will say so in plain language. What we do have is more interesting.

How Merakoi is built

Merakoi runs on three rings. Clients get exactly the expertise a project needs, and every person in the room chose to be there. We built it this way on purpose.

A small core team

Based in Switzerland, working with clients across the world. It stays small so the work stays close.

The Merakois

Independent specialists, writers, strategists, researchers, designers, facilitators, who join client projects when the work fits their craft.

Patient experts

A community of people with lived experience of the conditions we work in. They are the reason any of it matters.

The Merakois

The Merakois are the independent professionals we return to, project after project. (Merakoi was always a plural: -oi is how Greek says "the meraki people." These are its people.) It isn't a talent pool or a mailing list. It's about twenty people, and being one means:

  • Real projects, not bench time. You hear from us when there's work that fits you.
  • Consistent principles on pay. Your rate is agreed before you commit, and we pay for the work, not for where you live. The same principles apply to everyone.
  • Patient experts in the room. You'll work alongside people with lived experience of the conditions your work touches. It changes how you work. That's the point.
  • A long relationship, elastically. People step away for months (another client, a break, life) and come back to a warm welcome. The door doesn't close behind you.

Meet the Merakois

The fastest way to know whether you'd like working with us is to listen to the people who already do. Short, unscripted conversations from our Insider Spotlight series. They play on YouTube.

Who we look for

The checkable part

Hard criteria. We will ask.

  • Deep craft in one of: medical writing, strategy, patient engagement, market research, UX and service design, facilitation, health data. With work you can show.
  • Experience inside or alongside life-science organisations. You know what compliance, medical review, and pharmacovigilance mean in practice.
  • Set up to work as an independent contractor. This is contract work, stated plainly.
  • Fluent working English.

The part we can't check

Soft criteria. The fit check below gets close.

  • You ask "what would patients say?" before "what will the client like?"
  • Comfortable with small-team autonomy: no layers, no hand-holding, high trust.
  • Low ego, high candor. You'd rather point out a problem than hide it behind polished work.
  • You do the work with meraki. If you had to Google the word just now, that's fine. If you rolled your eyes, this may not be your place.

The fit check

Six situations from how the Merakois actually work: the income rhythm, the autonomy, the teams that form and dissolve. This isn't a test and nothing is graded. It's a self-assessment: pick what's true of you, and we'll tell you plainly how the independent-contractor model is likely to feel.

Your answers never leave your browser. Nothing here is submitted, stored, or tracked.

The fit check needs JavaScript to work. The invitation below stands without it: if the form doesn't load either, the Book a Consultation form on our homepage reaches the same team.

1.A new project kicks off. How much direction do you want before you start?

2.Your team spans several time zones, and most collaboration happens in writing, on your own schedule.

3.Teams here form for a project and dissolve when it ships.

4.Halfway through, you realise the work is bigger than the fixed scope you agreed.

5.Pick the statement about compensation that sounds most like you.

6.Two projects wrapped last month. Nothing new is scheduled for you yet.

This model sounds like yours.

Your answers match how the Merakois actually work: self-steering, at ease with the rhythm of independent work, clear about scope and rates. If your craft matches the checkable list above, we want to hear from you.

Take me to the form

Parts fit. Parts will chafe.

Some answers match the model; others suggest the quiet stretches, the self-steering, or the dissolving teams would wear on you. Only you know whether that's a trade you've made happily before. If it is, tell us.

Take me to the form

You'd likely want more structure than this model offers.

Your answers lean toward steady work, a standing team, and direction you can count on. Those are legitimate preferences; independent contracting simply doesn't provide them, and pretending otherwise would waste your time.

If lived experience with a condition is where your expertise sits, there's a different door: Become a Patient Expert →. Either way, we wish you well.

Patients and caregivers

If you live with a condition, or care for someone who does, you already have the expertise we build everything on, and a different door: Become a Patient Expert →

Raise your hand

If the fit check pointed our way, or you disagree with it and can say why, this is the way in. Tell us what you do best, with your LinkedIn profile and anything else that shows your craft. A CV is optional. We read everything. We respond when there's a genuine possibility of working together, and we won't string you along when there isn't.
