Merakoi AI Editorial Charter
A guide to how we use AI at Merakoi.
Why we wrote this
At Merakoi, we believe lived experience can't be prompted. That belief sits at the center of every project we take on and every conversation we have with a client.
We also use AI every day. We analyze deep transcripts with it. We draft creative briefs with it. We synthesize formal research with it. We format informative carousels and beautiful infographics with it. We translate materials with it. These are good and valuable uses, and we believe in them.
This guide is how we reconcile those two facts. It is a short set of principles that captures how we think about AI at Merakoi and what we commit to when we use it. These principles are how we stand behind our editorial tagline, Lived Experience. Strategic Value. They exist because transparency matters, especially when the human at the center of our work is what we claim makes us different.
We are a small, agile, and continuously improving company. We expect these principles to evolve as AI evolves. Treat this document the way we treat our best work: a starting point, not a finish line.
Principles we strive to uphold
1. Lived experience can't be prompted.
This is the founding belief of Merakoi's work. Every principle below derives from it. When a question about AI use is unclear, we default to whichever choice best protects the integrity of the lived experience at the root of what we do.
2. Humans are the source; AI is the multiplier.
At Merakoi, humans provide the insight, quote, story, data point, judgment, or interpretation at the root of any piece of work. AI is how we multiply the reach, quality, speed, and polish of that human input.
We use AI to help with first drafts, transcript analysis, quote extraction, research synthesis, ideation, translation, summarization, formatting, scheduling, and visual generation from briefs. What we do not ask AI to do is replace a patient's voice, a patient expert's interpretation, a strategic recommendation, or a team member's judgment on what matters.
3. Patient voice is never synthesized.
Any time a patient appears in Merakoi content, as a quote, a paraphrase, or an attributed insight, it traces to a real person who consented to their voice being used that way.
We do not generate patient quotes or responses from AI. We do not use patient data to train or fine-tune AI models without consent.
4. Human hands on every piece that ships.
Every piece of content we publish, whether a blog, newsletter, white paper, LinkedIn post, video, client deliverable, or proposal, has a named human on the Merakoi team who has read it, stands behind it, and can answer the question where did this come from and who approved it?
AI drafts; humans review, correct, publish, and take responsibility for the result.
5. We disclose when AI use is the author.
When AI has done more than assist a human author or editor we say so. Internally, this means noting it in the document. Externally, it means a clear line of attribution.
We are proud of how we use AI, and we see no reason to hide it.
